The Chamber Sponsoring Fishing Tournaments?

A quarterly fishing tournament for the public may be in the plans for the
Lake Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce.

At its regular June meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, June 15, President Larry Paxton
proposed that the chamber investigate holding four fishing tournaments a year on Lake Palestine.

Paxton said that two might be for bass fishermen while two would be for catfish anglers.

He proposed that a quarterly tournament would bring fishermen from the Dallas and Houston and other
metropolitan areas to the lake on a regular basis and be great publicity for the lake.

In the past week, he said the chamber had received at least 20 telephone calls from persons wanting to
know about fishing tournaments.

Director Jay Simmons made a motion that the chamber form a committee to look into starting
quarterly fishing tournaments next year, a second came from Director Thomas Gros. The motion
passed unanimously.

President Paxton will appoint the committee with the assistance of Director Dick Moorhead.

In other action, the chamber will plan for the annual banquet at its regular July meeting
at 6 p.m. on July 20 at Lake Palestine Resort.

The directors discussed adding an auction to the banquet as a way of raising funds for the chamber.

Paxton said the chamber will need to find a location that can handle 150 people.
