Berryville, an incorporated city of about 700 residents, was founded by James E. Berry in the early 1970’s and is composed of a number of lake resort developments. It is governed by a mayor and city council and finances its activities mainly through revenue from a city sales tax and franchise taxes. An excellent water system and garbage pickup service by a private contractor are provided for its residents.
The Berryville Volunteer Fire Department, financed largely from individual donations, provides the city with fire protection and Henderson County Precinct 4 constables patrol the area for police protection.
Businesses in the city include a super market, real estate and insurance agency, auto repair shop, hair styling salon, convenience stores and package stores.
The Berryville Chamber of Commerce was organized to actively seek new business and industry for the city.
Besides lake activities, Berryville offers a resort development with a fly-in air strip, a perpetual care memorial park and the Lenore Berry City Park which has baseball fields and soccer fields. The main baseball field has been chosen as the home field for the Lon Morris College Bearcats baseball team from Jacksonville with games scheduled in the spring.
